Our Story: From One Vision to Many Divisions

Fireside Hearth & Home is the fireplace, grill, and outdoor kitchen division of Overhead Inc., and is the Toledo area’s best destination for builders and home owners needing high-quality products for their residential building and remodeling projects. Backed by the trusted company of Overhead Inc., Fireside Hearth & Home adds to the long line of quality products available through our many divisions.

While we got our start in 1932 by Ray Whimmer as a Toledo, Ohio garage door company, we have evolved and expanded our business over the years to include several divisions that serve our customers.

In 1982, the owner at the time, Lee Huss, founded the fireplace division of the company, originally designed to meet the needs of the builder community. Today, Fireside Hearth & Home proudly sells industry leading products, supported by our own factory-trained and certified installers and service technicians, to builders, homeowners, and business owners.

In 1986, in partnership with Kevin Krabach, the window and entry door division was established. Today, Architect’s Choice is your choice for windows, entry doors, screen systems, and patio awnings.

In 1996, our first showroom was opened to more appropriately display and serve both the builder and retail market. At that time, it was decided to add BBQ grills and patio awnings to the showroom as a counter-seasonal offering to the fireplace division.

In 1999, Lee’s son Mark Huss opened a business for commercial roofing and sheet metal installations and service. Overhead Roofing and Sheet Metal is your reliable source for repairs and service on your commercial roof and proud to be a Master Installer of Duro-Last roofing.

In 2007, an opportunity to expand operations into the Sandusky market presented itself and today Fireside Hearth & Home proudly services Sandusky communities for their garage door and fireplaces needs.

In 2012, ownership of the company transitioned to Lee’s other son, Michael Huss, who continues to act as the president of the company.

Our most recent addition was in 2023 when we established a showroom in Findlay. This Fireside Hearth & Home location allows our Findlay, Ohio area customers the chance to shop for quality garage doors, fireplaces, and grills in person.
